I know the belt needs tightening but cannot seem to find the right method to do that. I found the adjustment "bolt" but it turns so hard I am concerned I'll break it. Is there another bolt/nut that needs to be loosened first? |

The belt is not adjustable, it's self tightning. What year is your Path? _________________ 2005 Pathfinder

If you have a belt squeel, it may be the replacement belt. We have found that the ribs in aftermarket belts do not line up with the grooves in the pullys, causing the squeel. Nissan belts are the only ones that will not squeel. |

This is dead on as described in the link I posted above. _________________ 2005 Pathfinder SE

Also, Nissan belts are cheaper!! Yes, I said cheaper. I bought a Nissan belt from the Dealer a couple weeks ago, it listed for $21.48.
Advance Auto Parts has a Dayco belt for $44.79, and Autozone has a Goodyear belt for $44.99! _________________ '05 SE 2wd Storm Gray

I have had my 05 for a little more than a month now and just noticed squeeling the last few cold mornings. I can't imagine it is an aftermarket belt but I guess they would have sold it to me with whatever belt was on there. It seems to go away when the engine warms.
Would cold weather / cold engine accentuate the sqealing or is the belt probably just not right? _________________ Don Danger, CP-ASEL/AMEL

I had the belt tensioner replaced under warranty on my Frontier and when I got the truck back the noise was worse. Took it to another dealer and they installed a new belt and adjusted (shimmed) the power steering pump pulley or pump to be better aligned. There is a TSB (for Frontier and I would assume Pathfinder as well) about the pump alignment to aid in quieting belt squeaking. I have also heard that the better option is to use the Nissan belt. Good luck. |

I've had a problem on previous vehicles if I install certain aftermarket belts they will squeel. I learned not to be cheap in that department again, just do it right and fix the problem for good. _________________ 08 Pathfinder S 4x4
