Radiator Recall/Warranty Extension

Postby SPICOLI » Mon Nov 29, 2010 2:42 pm

I got my warranty extension letter in the mail today.

Nissan is extending the radiator warranty to 96 months and/or 130000 kilometers (whichever comes first), including damage, repairs, replacement, and related towing resulting from this issue.

If you have previously paid to have your radiator assembly or other affected components repaired or replaced prior to this campaign you may be eligible for reimbursement of the related expense.

So.....

I guess they're paying me back for my new transmission...SWEET !!!

I went to the dealership to get the refund started and after one signature, I was told that I should have it in 4-6 weeks.

I still think that this should have been a recall and not just a BS warranty extension. I hope all the Nissan owners who have gone through this nightmare get their money back/vehicles fixed and I hope Nissan learns from this little exercise.

Newbie question

I just bought a 2006 PF used. Will I be eligible for the radiator recall?

Its not a recall its a warranty extention- if you bring it in and there is no issue nothing will be replaced. Concerning the radiator refer to nissanassist.com read the document fully.

Nissan second warranty extension

Postby Telephony » Tue Oct 30, 2012 9:36 pm

Looks like Nissan has extended the warranty again to avoid admitting a defect in the radiator. Here are the details of the extension:

Up to 8 years/80,000 miles (whichever comes first): No customer co-pay
After 8 years/80,000 miles (whichever comes first) up to 9 years/90,000 miles (whichever comes first): Customer co-pay is $2,500
After 9 years/90,000 miles (whichever comes first) up to 10 years/100,000 miles (whichever comes first): Customer co-pay is $3,000

Basically Nissan is taking a calculate risk here. By slightly extending the warranty and caring for just enough cases, their hope is to calm enough of the masses and avoid a recall. According to CarComplaint.com, the average owner is becoming aware of a problem at 94,565 miles. If Nissan would have recalled the radiators immediately upon knowledge of the defect, it would have saved them from dealing with numerous transmission replacements and customer satisfaction concerns. Transmissions have been reported to totally fail while driving on congested highways raising safety concerns. One can lodge a complaint to the National Highway and Traffic Safety Administration at the link below.

According to DOT, the average driver in the US drives 13,476 miles a year. It is interesting to note on the NissanAssist website that the CVT warranty extension is 12y/120,000m.

I am no lawyer, but hopefully someone with legal expertise can comment on the class action lawsuit. It seems like potentially one needs to opt out if they find the terms unacceptable and can attend or be represented at a Fairness Hearing on March 14, 2013 in White Plains, NY.

Nissan Pathfinder transmission/radiator leak and failure

Postby lauracurtisspalmer » Tue Nov 06, 2012 10:48 am

Just a reminder as to how important it is to report the transmission/radiator problems to NHTSA. Concentrate on the safety issues if you were driving during this occurrence, or even fear of what could have happened if you were in traffic at the time.

NHTSA has started an investigation: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/defects/results.cfm. Look up investigations and then 2005 Pathfinder. You'll find the investigation info. My understanding they are investigating SUVs from 2005 to 2010 and it is not only the Pathfinder.

Safety is what creates recalls, which leads to getting the transmission, radiator and anything related taken care of at no cost. And hopefully reimbursement for those of us stuck with these unsafe lemons. The more complaints they get that are safety related the better.

Also be careful in reporting it http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/complaints/index.cfm to use these components as this is what NHTSA is doing the investigation on. The top two seem to have the largest number of complaints but there are some connected with the engine and cooling system so NHTSA is not getting the full picture of the number of complaints.

Component(s) :
POWER TRAIN
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:CONTROL MODULE (TCM, PCM)
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:COOLING UNIT AND LINES
POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:TORQUE CONVERTER
