Rims - 2 wheel drive vs. 4 wheel drive

Postby brivy2011 » Thu May 24, 2012 9:09 pm

I have a new-to-me 2004 Pathfinder LE 4 wheel drive. It currently has oversize wheels and tires (22") which I want to replace with the OEM 17" size. I bought a set of four used Nissan rims but the tire guy says they are 2 wheel drive rims and need to get the 4 wheel drive equivalent. Is this true? If it is true how do I tell the difference between them? Thank you.

I have never heard of such a thing, Rims are rims... as long as the lugs match up they should work fine. 6 lug 5.5 inch or 139.7mm Medium Offset is what you should be looking for.

Only issue I could potentially see would be at the front hubs. Perhaps the front wheels are made differently, but I'm just speculating.

The main problem I can think of is the bore size is different 2wd to 4 wd.

I checked my 2003 4wd wheels and think they will clear manual hubs as well as Nissan fixed hub.
