dealership diagnoses...........

Postby eieio » Sat Oct 20, 2018 7:57 am

In the last two days we have had two topics about ABS related problems.
In both cases, the dealerships recommended replacing the ABS module.
In both cases, the diagnosis may be incorrect (at least one was, the other is in question at this point).
What have been your experiences after authorizing such an expensive ($2K+) repair that didn't solve the problem?
Did the dealership refund your money, or try to convince you that the repair was necessary and there is further additional work to be done?
Did they guarantee that the problem would be solved for the original estimated cost?

I once spent a grand at a dealer diagnosing a issue with TCS/ABS and another light coming on and car going into limp home mode.
It was not R51 but anther Nissan w/ a VQ motor (which they should know like the inside of their hands by now)

They replaced the wrong thing.. couldn't figure it out and the blamed "the modifications".... of which admittedly there were plenty like a supercharger.....I told them it only happens when it rains or after a car wash....
they never offered any money back.

6 months later a sharp independent figured out it was a leaking gasket at the MAF.
replaced MAF, problem fixed....nothing to do with modifications but a basic everyday sensor (albeit an expensive one)
Apperantly this is not an exotic problem with the VQ MAFs
