2005 pathfinder clunk sound

Postby shanti.vt1 » Mon Aug 13, 2012 9:56 pm

Hello

I have an 05 pathfinder, 115000km. When I floor the car it clucks into gear and when I slow Down it does the same thing. When I drive it normal the tranny shifts fine.

Any idea what the sound could be.

Thanks

U-joints on either rear or front (if you have 4wd) driveshafts.

The u-joints are standard parts from Spicer, and can be got at any of your FLAPS (favorite local auto parts stores). I bought mine for about $10-15 each. There are 2 on each driveshaft.

You could give Lordco a try, they maybe able to help. They may ask you if you have an account, if you do not, just apply for one, you will get some discounts on parts. It doesn't cost you anything you just need to fill in a credit app and you can still pay cash. you do not need to be an automotive shop or reseller to set up an account.

Good luck.

Hey Shanti,

Forgot to ask, have you done the transmission cooler bypass?

Not yet I have only 115000 km on the car. I will do the bypass after the ext warranty has gone. What do you think should: do the by pass.

In Canada we have up to 130000km. Former it is I march of next year.

Consensus seems to be to wait until the warranty expires then do it right away. Did you purchase your PF from a Nissan dealer or off another lot or private? Do you know if the extended warranty is transferable to you or does it follow the vehicle?

Not sure how this works as I have never bought used, most of my cars have been leased with the exception of my PF.

Went to the Dealer yesterday and asked him how much would it cost to replace the front and rear u-joints.

He gave me a price of 400 including taxes.

Is this reasonable ?

Did they specify how much of the $400 was parts and how much was labor?

Hey Guys,

Just an update and some advise. I found out when the I bought the car the Rear U-joints were replaced.

Should I get the front ones done ? I took it back to the dealer I bought it from and told them at high speeds I get Vibrations.

They rotated all tires for me. They said they were off balance. I have a 3 month warranty that came with the Path when I bought it.

I still get a vibration sometimes. what to do ?

Hello,

Any more advise before I take my vehicle to the Dealership on Thursday. Still getting a clunk sound. Dealer said they replaced the rear u-joint before it was sold to me.

My last visit they balanced all the tires and told me to see if that makes a difference.

Should they replace front u-joints ? Its not a Nissan dealership. I bough the car from a Chrysler Dealership.

thanks
