water pump

Postby mar1 » Sat Mar 19, 2011 6:30 am

so im currently on my third water pump, and today i check under my car to see a puddle of green water.

before i take it to dealership, any advise on why this may be happening ?
anything possibly damaging the water pump that they're not fixing so it gets damaged again?

my warranty runs out soon, and i need to make sure this wont happen again and again.

That's very odd. You're the only one I've heard mention that they've had to replace their water pump.

Make sure that the dealer is using distilled water and not hose water when they dilute the coolant. I've seen hose water kill cooling systems with all the minerals and crap in it.

dunno if this is related, but since they changed the pump last time,
the car vibrates everytime i turn on the A/C.

can the compressor belt be installed wrong and does this affect the pump?

I believe the dealer warranties their work for 1yr/12000km. Ask.

Only thing I can think of why it'd leak 3 times is a burr on the block cutting the seal, bad seal, improper installation (same guy 3 times?!), improper torque of the bolts or just a bad batch of water pumps....

Another could be reusing the water pump and just changing the seals?

Water pumps are usually rebuilt, never brand new, unless from the factory.

just dropped it off at Nissan today. we'll see what they come up with.
not the same guy working on it, but the problem in this country is most of these guys are inexperienced.

the first time they changed it i was with them and they had a service manual open, to know how to get to it and take it apart. the mechanic called in three different guys to help with getting it out and give their input.

this is the pump from last time:

you have to remove the chains to remove the water pump?
