Power Steering pump pulley

Postby martyf250 » Sun Sep 11, 2011 9:42 am

The pulley above the alternator (power steering?) has a nasty squeel tht is only getting worse. it usually goes away after 20 minutes of driving. would this be an easy fix to replace the pulley. I'm assuming bad bearings in it? it looks like there is 1 bolt holding it on...

Could it just be the belt after it warms up and stretches out a bit? What shape is it in?

Does it squeel differently when turning the wheels? If not, my guess would be that the belt is making noise.

no it does not make noise when turning the wheel. I'm starting to think it is the belt now too. If it were a bearing in either the alt or PS pump it would be consistent you would think. The squeel goes away after driving for awhile

there is a technical service bulletin covering belt squeal and alternator pulley alignment troubles in 2005-2007 R51s........
