Cold temperature knocking

Postby martyf250 » Mon Oct 24, 2011 5:36 am

I think since I have had the car new from 2005 I get a knocking in the engine when the temperatures are colder, say 40 degrees or below. Any idea what it might be? it does go away after the car is up to normal operating temperature

my old honda was horrible, the problem was called piston slap. Maybe the same thing on the VQ40, not sure.

In any case, my honda ran to 300k, and then played kiss-kiss with the rear end of a ford ranger. In other words, it didn't really do anything bad.

Put some lucas Oil stablizer in the oil, and that will help quiet down the motor. Keeps parts lubricated.

I have the same issue, You will probably see it is the same sound you get when you change your oil and first start your engine and the oil is not yet up to pressure. I think it has something to do with the oil pump struggling to push the cold oil through the filter.

I found it is quietest when running mobil one 5w30 oil and the mobil one filter. Last time I changed my oil, I went with the bosch filter and the sound got worse again, so I will be getting the mobil filter again..

Again, I'd try the Lucas. They make it for both conventional and synthetic. You can buy it almost anywhere.
