Called our Nissan Dealership yesterday:
1. Drain and fill is $160- I can buy trans fluid for $9/qt on ebay
2. They don't do flushes, as they believe the small metal particles need to stay in the fluid- Not sure about that one!

How many quarts do I need for a drain and fill?

Went to Nissan a few months ago asking about trans. I have almost 130k on my 07 and I have NEVER touched or serviced the transmission. They looked at the fluid and said it's still pinkish red and to leave it alone if I haven't had any problems. They told me to NOT have it flushed because it's been running so well for so long that a flush would clean out the valve body and all metallic particles that might be in the fluid and could affect the performance of the clutch. So if the fluid's red or pink then I'm leaving it alone.

Wow, 128K; I would at least consider doing a couple of "drain & fills"

How can you tell how much fluid you get out of a drain and fill? Should I measure what comes out so I can measure what to put back in?

I got about 4.5 quarts out when I drained mine.

I took a plastic container, poured water in one quart at a time and marked the level with a marker, up to 6 quarts. Starting at 4, I put marks also at the half quart level.

This first time I did mine, I had a couple of empty, 1-gallon, washer solvent jugs and a funnel. I only needed the one jug as just under 4 quarts drained out. Now I just drain it out, install about 3-3/4 quarts, take her for a short ride, let her idle for a few minutes, recheck and top off, if needed.

forgot about this thread. i'm at ~87k now and the other day i started getting some of those "bumps" again when i'd manually go from 3rd to 2nd. checked the fluid and i was about 1/2 a qt low. after driving and making sure the tranny was warmed up, my dipstick was in the middle of the cold marking, after 1/2 qt i was back towards the middle top of the hot marking.

i can't see any drips or anything anywhere. i know i just did the tranny bypass, and there's no leaks with that tubing. I had also double checked the trans fluid level then and it was dead on in the hot range.

anything else anyone can think of that could be eating transmission fluid?
