16" Wheels for my 05

Postby abomb1 » Fri Jan 23, 2009 9:34 am

Yep, another wheel question. But I searched and searched and couldn't find an answer to this.

I'd like to get some different 16" wheels for my Pathfinder but am not understanding why I would need a positive offset. I've read many posts about people looking for that to keep the wheels inside the fenderwells. I kind of like the wider stance that a 0 or small negative offset would give the truck, but I've also read of "clearance issues" with the caliper and don't understand what would cause this. I wouldn't think the offset would cause this unless it was a very high offset.

I just want to make sure that if I get some 16x8 wheels with a 0 or small negative offset that I won't have any problems a heat gun or dremel can't fix.

Anyone with aftermarket wheels able to help?

I've used TireRack.com for tons of tire\wheel issues from previous vehicles to the present. You can always call them toll free and ask them. I do know that they're an experienced tire\wheel distributor. They do they're own idependent testing on every product they stock and evaluate them for their customers. Give it a shot, you really don't have anything to lose but a few minutes if they can't help.

0 offset will fit the vehicle .... but will hang out of the fenders about 30mm more than the stock wheels ... It all depends on what you want ..... I think it would look good with a 4x4 stance and a meaty tire ... also you will be more likely to hit the fenders with the tire, but a small enough tire or a lift should help that .... or cut the corners off the fenders ...

I had a +10 wheel on my old Frontier , stock wheels were around +30 ...they did hang out a little , I liked the look , but did tend to throw more road grime down the side , Path has the good mud flaps and side steps that may help that ... if yours has those ...

The brake issue is more about wheel design, some steel wheels are flat on the inside , so they tend to hit the calipers ... You would just have to test fit them ...

I have a 93 300zx and i am always checking out wheels that will fit without having to roll fenders or hitting the large calipers in front.

I use the following sites to help me compare before and after fitting of wheels.

and this one too:

unless you know what you are doing.. don't deviate too much from stock offset.
