1996 Pathfinder - HELP!!! Cant remove spark plug wires!!!

Postby reiselray » Mon Mar 21, 2011 8:34 am

Hello, and thanks in advance for any help you can give.
I'm trying to work on my sisters 96 pathfinder, she left it pretty much unused this winter and mice ate up the spark plug wires.

I'm having a real challenge getting some of the wires off, specifically number 6 and number 5. They just wont come off! I've tried, leveraging while having a good hold with pliers...etc..and I mean putting a lot of muscle into it. The boots will turn, but they will not release.

Am I missing something, a trick or tip? Anyone ever run into this, and what did you do to solve. I sure don't want to have to go to the trouble of removing the manifold on this puppy.

Any help would be appreciated, I'm just trying to help her out.

Thanks

I've had this problem before. If I am understanding you correctly, the boot won't pull off of the end of the spark plug. If you can get the top to move at all, I suggest squirting a bit of WD40 or other lube into the spark plug tube to try and loosen the bond between the lower boot and the sparkplug tube.
