Sign me up! I only have the USGS 7.5' of DV, which is pretty good & made of a waterproof type material, but I'm always up for another good map.

I'll consider it official "The Nissan Path swag."

Carl,

Since it doesn't seem like anyone is chomping at the bit, don't worry about cutting your trip short by making a detour to DV. You've been there, I've been there. Unless you really feel like making the trip out to meet up with at least 1 other forum member. Obviously, it's up to you, but don't sweat it if you don't make it. That's assuming nobody else decides to go...

We'll see, I've got my camp ground in JT reserved through the weekend, and my motel rooms in Pahrump and Ridgecrest are cancelable with just 24 hours notice. Need to bounce it off the kids too, they're looking forward to DV. I'll decide this weekend I think...

Far MORE people in this world should learn how to say 'no' to their kids IMHO :P . Anyway, I'll decide after this weekend, no rush, hopefully some of the other chaps will chime in here...

That makes a caravan of 3 then. Carl will be out Saturday, but what about you, Jim?

What time does everyone want to meet up on Saturday at the Titus turnoff (or Rhyolite)? Talk about the ass end of nowhere. I may just pack up everything Saturday morning, then try to get a headstart on the return trip to SLC after we're done with our forum gathering of the minds. In any case, I'm usually up by 6:30 or 7 while camping there because of the heat, and it will probably take at least 1/2 hour to drive there from the campground, so I could probably make it by 9am.

this is all new territory for me :D as i haven't been to this area of the park. it'll take me ~2hrs from my door to the titus turn-off. (i assume filling up in beatty is a good idea...)

i say you guys make the plan and i will be good with it. i am pretty flexible here, not to mention i have the shortest drive home. any reason why i shouldn't bring the dogs? (big, but very friendly)

So, do you guys want to meet at Rhyolite or the Titus "exit?" Doesn't matter to me, although if we skip Rhyolite, we'll have more time to do other things. The drive out from Ubehebe Crater to the Racetrack can be interesting at times. Certainly give the suspension a workout. Let me know what you guys want to do, as it might impact my decision on leaving or staying in there another night, especially if we end up closer to Furnace Creek. I'm game for anything.

Jim, I'm sure you're already aware of this, but Titus is a one way road, with the entrance just outside of Beatty. I'll have to keep my eyes on the road conditions down there, because Titus Canyon is one the roads that is frequently closed due to flooding. If it's closed, we'll just meet somewhere else.

i am good either way, although a suspension workout does sound fun ;)

thx for the info, steve. i did see that titus is one way and i will also keep an eye on the conditions. as the time approaches we can better assess whether a back up plan might be a good idea.

NVS: if it makes your drive back to SLC easier you are welcome to crash at my place in LV after the drive. i have a guest room that the dogs aren't allowed in and a spare bath.

Thanks for the offer. I actually drive north from DV, as driving through Vegas is farther (and actually slower even if the mileage was the same).

As to your question about your dogs, I'd say keep a close watch on the weather. If it looks like it will be hot, it just wouldn't be worth it for them. The way things have been going, it'll probably be snowing when we are there.

Heh, I already had that happen to me once, most amusing... :P

Here's the current DV road condition report, updated daily.
