4-way to 7-way tow wiring with keyless entry

Postby morleyz » Thu Aug 22, 2013 6:35 am

So I thought my 4-way to 7-way conversion of my tow harness was going to be plug and play. I purchased a plug in harness without really looking beyond a glance at what was under my truck.

I have a 2008 Pathfinder LE with keyless entry. The key sensor for the rear door lock/unlock button is in the bumper and is wired through the same harness as the tow wiring. The plug-in harness that I purchased has a 6 pin plug plus a two pin plug. My wiring on the Pathfinder has a 8 pin plug and a two pin plug. The 8 pin looks simply to be the regular 6 pin plus the two wires for the keyless sensor.

Does anyone know a PN for a 7-way trailer harness that also has the support for the keyless sensor? If not, I'll just splice the towing portion of the plug off the old harness, but it would be nice to just plug it in rather than digging out all of my soldering equipment.

Hmm, just received my harness and also noticed some strangeness under there.

I'll let you know what I find if it's the same, thanks for posting this.

I knew something wasn't right.

I bought my kit from Nissan for the 2010. Was all plug and play and bolt on the bracket to the towing frame.

Did you not get a factory harness?
Or if you bought factory perhaps they gave you the wrong year?
When I got it 3 years ago there were 2 part numbers.

Trailer Wiring with Brakes

Postby kckranz » Sat Aug 02, 2014 6:26 am

Not sure if there was ever a resolution to this, but I have a few questions regarding my 2005.

I do find a few different part numbers for the OEM harness to add 7-way connector. Some of the pictures include a T connector wire and some don't. I'm assuming the T connector installed inline would allow usage of both the 4-pin and 7-way connector.

Also, those who have installed the 7-way, is the connector the blade type or the pin type?

The one I got from Nissan for my 2006 is the blade type. It didn't have any "T" for a 4-pin connector.

Out of curiousity, are any of you installing brake controllers along with the 7 way harness?

All plug and play for me as well. It was already wired for the brake controller, just need to add the 7-pin and mount it to the tow bar.
