79,488 miles in. doing routine check up- and spot leak

Postby nolazach » Sun Jul 27, 2014 2:31 pm

I was going to do the 4qt trans change and the radiator fluid change. I took the cap off of the radiator and saw the strawberry milk stuff in there.

I went ahead and changed the oil and the rear end and all the filters and pcv valve I planned to. I just left the coolant and trans alone.

Will drive to Nissan at 7am and drop it off.

Hoping they don't give me any trouble.

I'm under 80,000 miles, and under 8 years (2007)

Sad thing is, I found this site first and this morning bought the fitting to bypass the radiator. What really stinks is we planned on taking this car on vacation to Tennessee next weekend. I doubt it will be fixed in time and if we DID take it, it would go over warranty. Oh well. Looks like everyone is cramming in my Tacoma access cab.

See if they'll cover a rental...maybe a Tahoe or something similar to what you have.

Went to dealership today.

They said they would change the transmission and the "part" in the radiator that is bad.

IDK,

I marked the drain bolts on the block so I can see how good their flush is.

The trans was my worry. I have rebuilt Dodge trans and Volkswagen, but never a Nissan. Would much rather a new one swapped in.

I'm kinda worried about the radiator. But I know I can flush and change that in a few hours, worst case. Though I think they are changing it and the guy was just wording it funny.

As soon as I get it back we are going to bypass the radiator anyway.

Said it would be done by Wednesday. Trans and all parts were in stock.

She can borrow her Mom's car for a couple of days. We are just happy with a new tranny to be honest.

They will replace the "part" in the radiator by replacing the radiator, which should be an updated unit without the problems of the original part, so there is no need to bypass. It's not practical to take apart a plastic tank radiator to replace the trans cooler. Nissan uses genuine Nissan remanufactured transmissions, which are as good as a "new" transmission.
