I usually just look for white streaks or pink custard on the dipstick. If you want to boil your fluid, go for it!

No comment on the fee issue either way.

But a visual inspection of the fluid will be fine.

Getting a 2nd cooler on my 2010 with 90K new to me. The Antifreeze is clean. My mechanic felt better doing this. I trust him. Also, shocks, front end parts and spark plugs. Already had a push guard and off-road lights put on it. Looks meaner. :D

Glad you are looking after your truck.
But please read this entire thread it has a lot of nuanced conversations in it.

When you say "a 2nd cooler"
What exactly does this mean?
The truck comes stock with 2 tranny coolers.
-The heat exchanger in the radiator (what is the part number of your rad? there is a sticker on it unless it fell off or its been changed in the past).
This heat exchanger is whats problematic
- A small factory external tyranny cooler.

Is he bypassing the internal heat exchanger or not?
Or justa adding an additional cooler? (which would do no good at all)
The cooling ability of the bad Radiators is not the issue, its the seals in the factory heat exchanger.

Much has been written by myself and others on this I do ont wish to repeat it all.

Please re read this thread to gain a thorough understanding of the nuances that will likely exceed those of your local mechanic.

I do not mean to be pushy I just want whats best for your vehicle. 8)
