My original one failed around 54k miles. I replaced it (ordered from Courtesy Nissan for about $55) around 65k miles (just had to keep an eye on the odometer for 320miles  ) and now have 70k miles. I do notice this new sender likes to flash DTE around 240miles, while the old one would wait til about 280miles.

I'll post some pics when I get the chance.....
Ralph, How bad was the replacement? My dealer replaced mine for about $180 - I paid for ~50% of the labor rate that Nissan NA wouldn't, Nissan NA picked up parts and a rental. The instructions I found online (maybe here?) made it sound like a time consuming PITA, but not too difficult.

I think diy is feasible, but there are a lot of things that need to come out before you get to the gas tank, I believe the rear drive shaft or axle half shaft have to come out.

I have 58,600 miles on my 05 and have not had any fuel sender issues. My fuel gauge will move up when I turn the truck on, and it is accurate. The DTE will take about 30 secs or so to get up to the correct amount. I usually fill the truck up one the low level light comes on. I guess I should cross my fingers.

fuel sensor

Postby jbknh » Wed Jan 13, 2010 8:22 am

I have a 2005 SE with 110K miles on it and the fuel sensor is starting to act up. If I let the gas level get too low to the point when the warning light comes on, I get a check engine light and the DTE goes (-----). After filling up, it takes a while before the gage shows full. The check engine light does reset itself after a day or two.

Is this a DIY fix?

I have the same issue except my check engine light stays on until its manually cleared with a computer. I go out of my way to never have my fuel level drop too low.

Same problem here. Dealer quoted $400 to replace.

$400.....Ouch!

Does anyone know how difficult it is to replace the sensor? Do you have to drop the gas tank or is there some other access point under the back seat?

If it is too difficult to DIY, I may just leave it be and fill up before it gets too low.
