The A/C is not going to turn "on" anyway because there is no freon in the system. The pressure switch will keep the compressor clutch from engaging. So, just drive it.

so now...

The shop replaced the condenser, but the pressure is still sky high.

They believe the issue is the refrigerant itself. They think it has stop leak in it and its clogging up the system. Is that stop leak or just leak detection dye?

The fix is is to change the front and rear expansion valves, plus the clutch fan. Flush the entire system.

Makes me wonder why this happened now and not earlier. I've had the truck since 09 and never had an issue with the ac, so its never been looked at before.

sounds fishy. What about a kinked or deformed AC line?

nothing about the lines

was mentioned except that they think they're getting clogged with stop leak.

ah, I just remembered that I had an accident about a year ago and the front end had to be replaced. I'll have to check if the condenser or other ac parts were replaced. If any lines were bent, it could be from that.

I'll get the car back today and see what I find.

is it possible that a previously bent or kinked line may have caused the failure of the condenser that you just replaced?

The green dye they put in at the factory is just that....green dye. There is no stop leak. Now, if you had an accident that involved the AC, it's possible that the repair facilty used stop leak. If that's what's causing the problem, I would have the system flushed out AND replace the expansion valves.

AC is good so far.

After the condensor was replaced, I took the car back to the auto body shop that repaired it after my acciddent. They filled it with refrigerant, did some testing on the entire system over a couple days and found nothing else wrong.

So no more money spent and the ac is performing as expected. Plus the body shop will try to get me reimbursed for the condensor and labor charged by the other shop.

Thanks to all that of you that offered suggestions. Hopefully no more explosions are in my future.
