Colorado trip a success...

Postby Krafty » Sun Jul 27, 2008 12:39 pm

Returned from Keystone Colorado area yesterday afternoon. Overall a great trip! Put on about 1750 miles over 7 days (732 miles to get there from Des Moines). Did a lot of hikes with the family and did a couple of off road trails. We didn't end up doing any challenging off road trails since we were quite a ways from home and my tires aren't anything to put too much faith in to (original OEM's) but it was still a blast. Also, I might mention that I'm pretty much a newbie to the off road scene - especially in the mountains. Overall I have a lot better feel for what you can do in the pathy. I was very cautious in the beginning. My BIL is from colorado and has an X-Terra. He thought it was pretty funny how I was inching along the trails at about 1/4 mph...

On another note, as I was driving home and looking at all the vehicles rolling down the interstate I was reletively certain that we have the best all around vehicle for a trip like this. Here's why-
We ran down I-80 doing 80 MPH
We got about 21 MPG average on the highway
We could haul 7 people around on short trips (extended family was there too)
We were able to do some off roading
It's extremely reliable
Plenty of power going up I-70 in the mountains
Reasonalbe price

The only thing is that I wish we could get the Diesel version here. I could have all of the above AND get 28 MPG..

Sure wish I had the OME lift and a front bumper with some snatch points...

Here's some Vids...

And some Pics...
This is going up Loveland Pass. The wife and I are pretty much used to hiking (wife's a hiking machine) but weren't sure how the 3 yr old and the 6 yr old would do. Luckily the 3 yr old didn't mind the carrier (I did! 50 lbs...) and the 6 yr old turned out to be a hiking stud!

An "intentional" roadblock we encountered on our way down the mountain (courtousy of my two BIL's)...

Nice pics and vids. The trails never look as bad in pictures as they are in real life. I was just out in Colorado a couple weeks ago and did quite a few trails... I will get some pics posted in the next couple of days.
I agree with you that the Pathfinder is a great vehicle for road trips!
