Correct Motor Oil 2000 Path Manual Trans

Postby famousredhead » Mon Apr 27, 2020 11:31 am

Hi everyone....I am due for an oil change. I need to know

1). what is the correct oil to use for this? The last time I had one done, they used 10w30. But when I did a search on an auto parts store, 5w30 came up.

I checked my owner's manual and it doesn't state the correct type to use.

Different oil change places in my area tell me different things. The last person to do the change was a pathfinder specialist. He has since moved and no longer available to me.

So can anyone here tell me which is the best oil to get and should I get real or synthetic.

Also Q 2: I dont drive the car very much...MAYBE 3,000 miles a year. So can I get away with doing an oil change when it hit's the Mileage Due point or should I change it every so many months even if the mileage hasn't hit 3,000 mi.

Thank you

Lil Red...

You have a VG33E engine in your car.

-yes 5w-30 is the factory recommended oil.

-But there is nothing wrong with a 10w-30.
if all other things like brand are equal, a 10w-30 is often more stable long term if you dont change your oil often.

-Then there is also the 5w-30 hi milage formulation offered by many oil sellers.

All those 3 will be a fine choice for your engine.

PS: Every 6 months is a good rule especially if your trips are mostly short.
