Did Nissan make a 2x4 OFFROAD SE?

Here in Chicago I've see mostly SE and LE, but I have seen 2 OFFROADs.
I parked nexxt to one at Jewel and looked at the difference between mine after my mods. With the steps removed and 265/70r17 BFG A/T on they sat the same height (mine looked about 1/2" taller) and had the same stance. If I put OFFROAD badges on you would think they were the same.

I don't know about Off-Road, but certainly Off-Topic.
As far as the down shifting, it has to be just the right conditions. Hill grade, speed, braking... I have a hill I drive all the time that it does it occasionally on. Nothing wrong.
I also just got a brand new tranny after the radiator fail and it still does it, no different from the toasted tranny.

I've never figured out the auto downshift feature. It does it sometimes and not other times under the same conditions. I've tried to provoke it to downshift, but can't get it to do it. It's a really useful feature when you are towing.
I can tell you that they DID make an SE OR model with 2WD. The first R51 I test drove was a 2005 SE OR. The dealer thought it was 4WD as it was an Off-Road model. I showed them there was no 4WD switch, no t-case, no shafts, and no front diff. By 2008, when I was looking at new ones, the SE OR was 4WD only. I test drove one of those, too.

:Actually mine has gotten less random. I can almost guarantee that on two steeper curved hills on my daily drive it will happen. Occasionally on different random straight hills but usually steep. I could see it being useful for towing but it'd be nice to turn off when you don't want it. Most of the time I don't see it being useful and it wastes shifts.
It's odd that after the auto downshift to 3rd...pressing OD off makes it shift from 3rd back to 4th. What I haven't tested yet is setting OD off BEFORE it happens to see if I can trigger the downshift or not.
I originally didn't think 2WD OR models existed either, but here is one for sale on Autotrader. There are more then one listed like this.
