make sure you also get the "clip" for the sender - it's not an updated part, but an additional part that didn't exist before.

Uh oh, parts came today and this is the first I'm hearing of the clip...is it completely necessary? It's a different part #? I ordered the "kit" from Courtesy Nissan.

On the new sender I did notice a small black, cylindrical dome piece with a couple of wires coming from it, what's this for? I'm sure I'll see where it goes when I get the old one off, but it's be nice to know ahead of time.

that black nub with the blue and black wires is the fuel temp sensor. make sure the wires go into the guides. I like to spiral those wires around the others loosely (1 wrap for the entire length is good) around the others. The clip is an add on part the covers the "sender" part of the sender where the main body of the thing is. If your "kit" came with sender and o-ring, yes you should order one more part.

Well, I completed the fuel sender replacement today. It would not have been a bad job if Nissan had 1) used a more robust EVAP line connector, and 2) allowed just a little more slack in the pump electrical connector. Taking my time it took 5 hours, but could have been 3 if the connections hadn't been such a pain.

Despite reading warnings to be careful with the EVAP connector I ended up breaking it. Getting the thing out, the plastic is so thin that breaking it seems inevitable. Maybe there's some trick to it, but I was frustrated with the service manual in that it explained in detail how to take apart the fuel quick-connects but gave absolutely no instruction on this connector. I ended up just putting both halves of the "U" back into the connector, hoping they'll hold the line together. After I have the wheel back on, I'm thinking I should have epoxied or taped it together.

The electrical connection on the top of the tank was the worst part of the whole job. Nissan left very little slack in the wire and I ended up accidentally dropping the tank too far and putting the tank weight on the wire. You have to just barely lower the tank, and then there's no room to get a hand on the connector to take it off. After an hour of struggling and with numb fingertips, I finally got it off. Final successful method was: lay on the floor parallel to the driveshaft with feet forward, prop back up on a bag of dog food, reach around the driveshaft with right arm, reach around left side of tank with left arm, use small flat head screwdriver in left hand to lift/push connector off locking tab while pulling with right. The picture is out of focus, but maybe it'll help you see the tab arrangement. Compare with the mating connector on the top of the tank.

The new sender looked practically identical, with the only visible difference being slight change in the electrical contact surfaces (aside from color of the plastic parts). I wasn't able to find the "clip" that Tech spoke of in anything else online, including the TSB or recall documentation, so I just replaced sender for sender.

This recall document was helpful for me; it gives some good detail instruction and photos. It gives tips for helping avoid rotating the pump assembly or cutting the locating tab, as Tech had described.

Verdict- All is working and behaving normally, so I guess it was worth it to save $350...but I sure hope I don't need to drop that fuel tank again.

I broke the same clip. I just shoved both halves back together and wrapped it with some electrical tape.

:?
does anyone have the part number for:
1) the "clip" for the sender that Tech mentioned
2) the broken EVAP connector part in LittleStevies' picture
3) any other likely needed replacement parts to get this procedure done properly
Thanks! :)

Do I really need the Special Tool J-45722 to install
the lock ring. on the fuel tank?

I don't have the part #'s, but no, you don't need a special tool. Just be careful with a flat head screwdriver and hammer. Use a towel or cloth between the screwdriver and lock ring to prevent from damage and sparking near the fuel.

Or use a brass punch or a non-metalic item.

Can anyone tell me if the part number for the Fuel level sensor/fuel sending unit is 25060 – ZZ00A...... 2008 V6 Pathfinder. I found some online for about $70. My code that was pulled was for a Fuel level sensor.....looking to save some bucks by ordering this myself.

That's the correct part #.

My 06 Pathfinder has begun the Fuel sending unit issue. The reason Im upset is b/c 10,000 miles ago I took it to my local nissan dealer and the dude said that they would take care of it for me b/c it was recalled. Well, I go to pick up my car and he said the computer (check engine light) didnt show any problems, so they just cleared it. Lame. Im not stupid. So now 10000 miles later its doing the same thing and showing the same exact code that it did then. I've now gone to Nissan via twitter (sounds funny, but they usually respond when someone with a lot of followers starts talking them down), and they've given me some email addresses to email. So I'll keep trying and see if they'll replace it due to the recall. If not, then at least you guys have given some good instructions on how to fix it.
