has anyone removed or replaced 2nd muffler for sound?

Postby Clay350 » Sun Jul 01, 2012 10:47 am

I would like a little more of an exhaust presence on my pathfindwr v8. Nothing obnoxious but just something! Its to good of an engine to have it completely muffled. Im wondering if removing the 2nd smal muffler near the end would help? Has anyone do e this? Or replaced with aftermarket?

Most people that have removed the post muffler and replaced it with a pipe tend to complain about the sound; I wouldn't suggest that. The main muffler does most of the sound dampening, anyway. There are several aftermarket exhausts available and everyone has their preferances. You may want to search on YouTube as you can usually find videos of people who have installed aftermarket systems and recorded what their vehicle sounds like during a "drive-by."

Had an 18 inch Magnaflow put on in place of my muffler, love it sounds great not too loud, and I gained. 5 mph, had double stainless tip put on the end, love my v8 titanic Motor!

I wouldn't think the little resonator/muffler in the rear would do much.

I recently replaced the main muffler with a Magnaflow 12580 and it's slightly throatier/deeper but still very tamed and mellow.

After I get my manifolds replaced hopefully under warranty since they're cracked, I am looking into the Cajun B-Pipes available from TitanTalk forums, those will probably make quite a difference in sound.

Let me know what you end up doing. I was just thinking about this the other day that when I step on the gas, the V8 is to quiet. I want to hear it, but don't want it to be annoying.

She goes to Nissan today to get her manifold replaced under warranty, so once that's done, I plan on installing the Cajun B-pipes. I already have possession of these and will let you know how it turns out. Probably post some sound clips.

Right now, I really do like the sound with the 12580 muffler, so I'm hoping it can only get better from here.

Can you give me the part number for that muffler? Are there different variations of it? Was it a hard fit?
