Fog Lamps

Postby carfoglamps » Fri Feb 04, 2011 6:21 am

Fog lights are special driving lights that help our visibility in the fog. They not only are all essential while driving in rash weather conditions but also are crucial to prevent accidents caused by visibility problems due to snow, sleet, intense rains, deep set fogs etc. Act like weapon to provide an extra edge on road safety they are designed especially for early mornings or late in the evening when there is a heavy fog on the roads.

I think OP wanted to run these all the time with his low-beams. The high-beam pattern would likely blind everyone. I can't see why you couldn't pick any of the 90mm options and mount in the factory fog location. I have my Hella Black Magics wired to fire with my high-beams but I could use better fog coverage and this looks like a nice option. The OEM's are good for about 10' at best.

I came across this and wanted to resurrect the thread. This looks like a great mod and I'm interested in doing this. It looks like the site he referenced in the original post is no longer around. I can find these lights for about $55 a piece on amazon but what about the bracket? Is it needed or can i fab something up? This looks great because it uses factory wiring, switches, etc.

but what about the bracket?
Just looking into this myself and just FYI, I found everything on Amazon including the "HELLA 157659007 Mounting Frame for 90mm Series Lamp"
for around $100.

OK got the lights installed!
The install process wasn't too bad, but there were some sticking points that slowed progress for a few mins.

I adjusted the lights and will drive it around tonight and see how they do.
I guess anything will be better then the OEM fogs!!

BTW- I ordered the adjusting screws separate and they are NOT needed as the lights come with adjusting screws!

Hopefully this saves everyone the $25 plus shipping it cost me! :x

UPDATE:
This mod does NOT work with the "fog light mod". (Mod that allows the fogs to come on with the driving lamps and stay on even with the high beams)

I have found that the cross wiring done for the fog light mod actually burns out after a while. I didn't want to risk an engine fire, so it came off.

Still enjoying the extra light of the Hellas though!!

Bumpidy bump!

Glad I stopped by this place, I haven't been here in a lonnnggg time. Noticed that my driver's side fog took a heck of a rock or something cuz the whole outer lens and bulb were busted... came here a couple weeks ago looking for upgrades & found this. I'm digging the idea!

Fast forward to today, I just got my Hella 90mm Low beams in from eBay. Found a pair (new but no box) with bulbs & adjustment screws for 48 bucks shipped.... and two mounting plates are on their way from Amazon for another 17 bucks shipped. :)
