Help Identifying this tube

Postby Ariesg » Wed Nov 26, 2014 3:33 pm

Hi all,

I was topping off some fluids today and noticed a tube that looked as if it had been sheared off. The end looked a bit ragged. Took three photos to give better perspective of were it's located - right under the plastic engine cover.

I have no CEL on (other than the TPMS light for, what a assume is a bad TPMS sensor). The truck runs well and has no symptoms that would lead me to think that something is wrong.
Any thoughts?

Thanks for looking! -Aries

Would help if you took the cover off the top of the engine. It's only two more bolts. That way we could see where it's going to.

With the cover off:

Looks like it should connect to the tube directly to its left with the brown clip. Curious to know what its for. Looks easy enough to repair with the right tubes and connectors. Thanks again for looking! -Aries

The tank is called a "pressure tank." The vacuum hose that is broken is Nissan #22320-EA200. Just measure the length you need, cut off a small piece and bring it to your local auto parts store. They'll sell you a length of vacuum hose (I would get a couple of extra inches to be on the safe side) with which you can replace the broken hose; cut to size. It should cost you a buck or two. The replacement hose from Nissan, which really isn't any better, will run about $5 if you go that route.

Great! Thanks for your response! Curious - What does this "pressure tank" do?

Don't quote me on it, but I believe it's part of the evaporative emission system. I'd have to look into it more to be sure.

Hose replaced. $0.53 for a foot and a half from the local auto parts shop. Might just be my imagination/wishful thinking, but I thought the truck idled smoother after I swapped the hose. :? Either way, glad it's fixed. Thanks again for the assist.

Well, if it was leaking vacuum, it would lean out the mixture, so it should run better with it fixed.
