Sweet! As of right now, I will for sure (99%, unless something happens) be there April 12, 13 & 14th, not including 2 days driving time. I'm trying to throw another day in there as well, but it requires really having a handle on my trips this year, which I don't yet have. Any of those dates a possibility for you? You can PM me so we don't walk all over Carl's thread.

Yeah, get your own thread punks ;-)

I scored some lift time today and the 4x4parts.com rear springs are awesome! Unloaded they jacked up my rear wheel arch gaps by just .5 inches, but loaded with 300lbs of people in the back seat and another 200lbs in the trunk (yes we measured it, 500.2lbs total to be exact  ) the rear wheel arches were a full inch higher than stock.

I.E:

Before installing the springs I had 4" of gap up front, 4.5" at the rear. Loaded the rear sank to just a 3" gap, obviously sagging badly. With the new springs unloaded now it's 4" front and 5" rear, and then loaded with 500lbs the rear is still at 4". Perfecto! And that's without any silly spring cutting like I had been planning, just the 4x4parts.com rear heavy duty springs out of the box (and I might add while they are stiffer, their free length is also about an inch shorter than stock, so they did exactly what I was talking about already for me :P )

Their description is CRAP, but the springs are awesome, two thumbs up, can't wait to get some driving time in to feel how the rear end sways and tracks with the front now:
https://www.4x4parts.com/nissan/pathfin ... -5637.html

And it fits in the garage! Wohoo! Well, actually, it juuuust touches, but I'm sure it'll settle over the next month or two:

Lastly, do NOT expect to do this job with a spring compressor, the lower spring perch totally inhibits that option. You'll need to support the spring perch with a tranny jack and take off the outboard bolt and lower it down. Assembly is the reverse, though getting the bolt hole to line up just right is a bit of a PITA...

Now I have a spare Air 1000 spring kit since I have no plans to do any real towing. Anybody want it for free? It's not worth trying to return at this point, but you pay for shipping from my closest UPS Store...

Tranny fluid at 60k miles

Postby cesar33 » Sun Mar 04, 2012 9:26 pm

Just to give you an idea what tranny fluid looks like after 60,000 miles. I just bought a 2006 LE and did the radiator by-pass. Not sure if at 30k they serviced it, but I pumped out 1 gallon, and drained from the pan another gallon. Middle cup is half new fluid sample and the right cup is what new fluid color looks like. Will do 1 gallon service at 30k.

My 1997 LE just hit 180k and still running like a champ, I only did every 60k servicing on the tranny. 12 years I owned it, I spent less than 600 in repairs. My 2002 has 125k and I've spent zero in repair. Just fluids, and filters.

Installed a shiny new Optima Yellow Top D35 a couple days ago, and also just today during lunch replaced all 4 rear hatch struts using the directions from here: http://www.thenissanpath.com/viewtopic.php?t=2551

Simply fantastic! The hatch opens further and actually clears my 6'2" head and now opens with AUTHORITY. Only down side is you better have both hands free to close it, no more one handed fling and done.

Off to Death Valley this weekend for her first shake-down cruise. Saturday we'll start at Ridgecrest, hit the Charcoal Kilns, then up to the Saline Valley Hot Springs for lunch, through Steel Pass (I hope!) to the Eureka Dunes for sunset photography and over night, and Sunday a very quick spin through Rhyolite and Titus Canyon before driving home. Lots'o pics to come...

And yes RRagpaoa, I'll get a front wheel in the air and test our little "Auto" vs. 4-hi theory

nice!

have you considered removing the bottom liner of the bumper? when that touches anything, the bumper rips open from the sides where it connects to the body.

Okie dokie folks, here's the write up from her first off-road trip!
http://www.thenissanpath.com/viewtopic.php?t=6855

Let's wrap this thread up with a summary of all the stuff I did to the truck for Step One of it's offroadification:
Tires: 33" BFG AT/KOs
Suspension: Bilstein HD all around, 4x4parts.com's stiffer rear springs.
Brakes: Stillen (Goodridge) stainless steel brake lines and Metal Matrix pads, tirerack's G2 caliper paint to make it pretty.
Armor: Side steps and mud flaps removed, Rocky-Road's super-sliders, and OEM skid plates added.
And lots of preventitive maintenance, Optima Battery, etc, to make sure she's in top shape to bring us home from the middle of nowhere...

Step Two, hopefully later this year, winch bumper, real skid plates, stiffer front springs to handle the weight, off-road driving lights, etc...

I didn't even know you got the new Path V8?
Just reading this post I realized it was different.

Carl, how is the rubbing from the tires? Any updates. I'm still looking into a set of 285's (BFG A/T or Good Year Duratrac) and was wondering is a 1/8" wheel spacer would alleviate the frame contact.

There's no frame contact from the 285s to speak of. A tiny bit of contact on the fender liners, and a bit more on the mud flaps. Remove or trim the latter, and take a heat gun to the former to bend out of the way.

Thats good to know, thanks. I noticed your red Pathy rubbed with 285's but that was on a 7" wheel not 7-1/2" correct?
