High idle at first start

Postby Chadius » Wed Dec 17, 2014 9:30 am

when I first start my 87 pathy it idles kinda high (2krpms) drive it for a second and it goes down to 1.5 and then after I've been driving for about a half hour maybe a little less it idles nicely at 1k.

Any thought?

Vacuum leak

Postby Chadius » Sun Dec 28, 2014 9:42 am

so I've read around other Nissan forums and they said it might have something to do with a vacuum leak I also hear the hissing sound they say you might hear if you have one, can anybody help me locate this? The car is pretty rusty so it might be a rusted out spot somewhere underneath.

Any help would be nice thanks.

My 1992 has the same issue, idles 1100-1200 until it reachs operating temp then it settles down to 650-700 rpm I can hear a slight hiss until it warms up and I have checked everything that can be seen or gotten to. It sounds as if it may be coming from under the plenium at the air idle control, but I have just been to lazy to pull it !
It starts good and runs good and by the tme I drive a few blocks it is up to operating temp and does fine. Been that way two years, it has gotten no better or no worse. Gas mileage is as good as it has ever gotten at 15-16 mpg.
