Hot power wire in the hatch

Postby DiBo » Sat Jan 11, 2014 10:21 am

Hooking up a reverse camera and was looking for but can't find a hot power positive wire to tap into in the hatch. Any one know what wire will work?

find the reverse bulb hot wire and run it there. turn the key to acc with the truck OFF and the e=brake ON put the truck in reverse to locate it. do leave it in reverse for long after you find the wire. use a test light to find it. i can't remember the color but you will have to pry some panels to run the wire nice and clean. pass it into the tailgate harness to body access hole. remove the harness boot so you don't damage it to pass the wire in then reinstall it. hope this helps

I have it wired to the reverse wire from the head unit. So when I put it in reverse it comes on by itself. I am looking for a positive lead in the hatch to run power to the camera. I already have it grounded in the hatch but need a place to draw power.

All I need is a positive and a ground in the hatch. Any one know where I can find a good positive already available to piggy back from?

I'm not sure why JAHBLESSINGS's recommendation wouldn't work for you. The camera only needs power when you're reversing so it seems like a no-brainer to tap a backup light.

I'm not aware of constant power anywhere in the hatch.

I've got a similar question. Where's the reverse light wire found at the front of the vehicle? I need 12v switched by reverse at the front for my head unit. Can someone tell me the wire location? I have tried just about all the wires with my meter behind the driver side kick while leaving it in reverse to test but i'm not finding 12v.

The power outlet in the rear is on constant power. At least it is in mine.

You're right it is. Although I'm pretty sure you'd want switched power for something like this.
