I got an 87 se-v6 WD21 it has 109,xxx just bought it had to fix some hoses. Which is why I wanna know how much they are worthy for. (All maintenance aside besides engine tranny overhaul.)

Something like 170K, the timing belt broke (don't know how old it was) in February and just got it running again. In the process of fixing the timing belt (head replacement) I replaced all the gaskets, front crank seal, all the stuff that could be reached. Had a few hoses that were leaky, radiator was replaced. Nothing too terribly surprising for a vehicle with the miles this one had with some poor maintenance by the previous owner(s). Really inconvenient to have my winter beater break down in the middle of winter though!

I've seen WD21's with over 300,000 miles on them. Obviously, two big contributing factors are maintenance and rust, especially at the frame. The engines are very reliable and biggest problems are broken exhaust manifold studs, rear crank seal and rear oil pan lip seal leaks, distributors and people who don't replace the timing belt when it's due. The three-speed automatic transmissions used on the first couple of years were also a bit weak.

Thanks smj mine seems a little rough at shifting into 3rd gear it's sat for over a year before I bought it I checked the tranny fluid and put some Lucas in it, still hard to get it to shift any ideas?

Btw I do have the 3 speed tranny anything I can do that's quick and easy to clean it up.

You could try servicing the transmission fluid. It's hard to say without driving it for myself.

Mine is a 1992 with the 5 speed 183 K and has always had preventive maint done on time by Nissan service schedule.

Only thing that has ever happened that still remains a mystery was I had three injectors go bad at the same time on the same side ! Replaced them and have not had no more problems since.

I've got a 94 SE-V6 with 274,000!

The truck is running really strong. One thing I have noticed since I've had it is a sort of screech at higher rpms and it seems like I'm losing some power. I'd like to get that fixed asap

1995 XE V6, 95,000 miles

Postby BLK1995 » Thu Sep 11, 2014 5:27 pm

My brother stopped driving it in 2007, and it has been sitting in the garage ever since. I put a new battery and gas in it, and it started up after a few tries. Took it for a spin and it ran fine.

The trans shifted well, along with the transfer case. Needs new tires and probably brakes. Can anyone tell me if this is an interference motor?

I'm not an SUV person, so I really don't want to keep it. Just want to do what I have to so that I can sell it. What areas should I be looking at with regard to making sure there is no bad karma.

Thanks,

E

Yes, it's an interference engine and if it's been sitting that long, I would replace the timing belt, at least. I usually get a Gates kit from Rockauto that has the belt, tensioner and water pump. I'll also replace the thermostat, front cam and cranks seals and belts with genuine Nissan parts. I would also replace the fuel filter and fluids.

I can tell you this it's good up until I have to really mash on the gas to get it to shift into 3rd, I don't have to let off tho, almost like a brake is holding it back, (checked those)

Do you guys think some of that new Lucas would mess it up a little?

Rough Shifting Transmission

Postby Chadius » Fri Oct 10, 2014 2:47 pm

So I took it to the local shop, the guy looked at it and laughed ofcourse and after he took it for a test drive he looked under the hood and under the car, he eventually told me it was the tranny modulator and the line that goes from it to the motor. Im gonna replace those and we will see what it does,
The line pretty much rusted out from sitting so long I knew it had something to do with the fact that it has been sitting forever.
