i've done this test a few times now.

can't remember when the low fuel lights comes on exactly, but i want to say 30-40 miles left?

then after 18 miles left it goes to ---

i fill up then and put in about 18-18.5 gallons in. so that would be about 2 gallons left @ 14mpg city, or ~30 city miles left after the miles to empty goes to ---

I to was wondering this last night. I've been doing my own research with gas. Just switching from regular to premium netted me 50 more miles. Now I'm on my first tank of premium no ethanol added fuel and seeing how this does. As for the OP, my **** cuts on at less than 10 miles to empty. My last tank I ran 360 miles and just hit the **** and only squeezed in 18.5 gallons. I really wanna know how far I can go but don't want to test it!

The Pathfinder is built as a metric vehicle and hold a total of 80 liters of fuel which translates to 21.133 gallons.

I was looking for info on a reserve fuel tank and found this thread.

First there is a certain amount of fuel in the tank that is unusable. Could be 5-10%.

Second, apparently North Americans like to think they are getting extra mileage out of their vehicles and think the distance they can go after the gauge reads empty is a bonus. I've read that Germans expect that when the gauge hits E, they will be out of gas and that's the way they like it to work. They prefer knowing that they are actually out of gas rather than be left wondering how much farther they might be able to go.
