How to by pass clutch safety switch???

Postby sitano » Thu Apr 15, 2010 8:21 pm

Come on sweet thing, not now.... please, please, please there ya go....

I've had intermittent starting problems for months. The truck starts fine for weeks, then it's dead, if I keep trying it, key all the way off, after sometimes a few, sometimes many tries... she'll start. Then it's fine again for weeks....I've been switching the small relays around, nada, Haven't replaces the large dual relay yet,

But now I think it's the clutch safety switch.

Is it a simple single pole switch, can I just run a jumper on the connector to by pass it? At least that way I can eliminate that from the possibilities.

come on baby, don't make me call you names....

You could do a bypass as a testing measure, but I wouldn't keep it in there. It's there for safety from idiots. Just in case a friend borrows it, you don't want them being forgetful about your clutch after driving around in slushboxes for years.

I did the same procedure on my Camaro a while back in order to install a poor man's security system. I disabled the clutch safety switch and ran a small toggle switch underneath the seat, hid all the wires, so the car could not be started without flipping this switch. No negative repercussions. I don't loan my cars out anyways so I wasn't ever afraid of what my friends might do.

You have checked out the starter and all related wiring, yes? Alternator and batt are good? Key cylinder in good shape? Once I solved a similar problem in my truck by just squirting a bunch of WD40 into my key hole... might be worth a shot on a Pathfinder.

Good luck.

N.O. no FOOT closes with FOOT to make INTERLOCK...you can remove the switch and wire it up to the stick ..hold it in and turn the IGN and just to prove it might be the interlock??? work it from there...just realize you need to be in N or the horse will jump foward.it is a pain to removethe braket with no adjustment just seems depth with the pedel fully depressed...see that little rubber button on the pedel needs to hit that true...bet it is your INTERLOCK...if you hand test the neut switch with a meter and the thumb test continuity each push.....take the INTERLOCK out and apply 12Vs to the COIL meter the N.O. and it closes every time..
