Here's a thread about a Pathy with a trans temp gauge and a cooler mount fan.

OK, so I just bought my first Pathfinder yesterday ('05 SE 4x4 w/53k miles on it) and I now see this thread. Started to worry, but I did get it from a Nissan dealer with the "Certified" warranty and (maybe gullibly) bought the Security+Plus FULL warranty (for 84 months/100k miles). So this mod seems very easy to do and worthy. But, with the warranty, should I NOT do this now? Wonder if I did and then at some point the tranny or radiator goes if the mod would negate my warranty... I would think if the cooler/tranny went that the Security+Plus coverage ("bumper to bumper") should cover it.

Also, any other issues I should be aware of with my Pathfinder?

even if you do it, it's completely reversible. so if you have probs just put it back the way it was and take it to the stealership

Good point. Especially easy if I just do the tube swap/move method versus the cut/cover method.

I bought the same warranty and just used it for this problem at 57,000 miles. Covered in full. Good move.

Just got in from bypassing and used bellwilliams idea. Didnt cut any hoses and used a few plastic zip ties to sucure both of the newly routed hoses. Just a note though if some may be confused. There is not a hose that goes to the engine block. The two lines from the tranny are mounted by the oil filter on the engine block side of the radiator. Tranny fluid was still clear.

thanks for the update. careful about using zip ties, they might cut through the hose.

Follow up?

Postby 05seOR » Fri Jun 11, 2010 6:36 pm

Hi all - first post on here. I bought an 05 SE last Friday with 83k on it, unfortunately the tranny was too far gone, getting serious shutter between 50 - 70mph. Long story short, I ended up trading it up for an 05 SE OFFROAD with 40k miles. I have been reading all the posts about bypassing the internal cooler and my question is this.

To all those out there that have done the bypass (with or without an additional external cooler). How many miles are on your p-finder? How many miles have you put on your vehicle since bypass? and have you had any issues??????

Thanks in advance for any input, very interested in not feeling that shutter EVER again!

1. 50,000 miles currently on pathfinder.
2. 1,000 miles placed on vehicle post-bypass.
3. No issues whatsoever!

Spending 1/2 an hour under the vehicle to reroute the lines to avoid thousands of $$$ to replace a transmission is well worth it IMO. Go for it!

Not sure if the pic will carry through, but considerably freaked out enough to complete the bypass.

2 questions. Do you disconnect the raditor hose on the driver side radiator connection and attach it to the connection midwayup on the passenger side. Then reroute the shorter hose to close the loop on the bottom of the radiator? Or is the one that comes down on the passenger side (shown on the top of the page) long enough to fit directly onto the connection near the oil filter?

Then either remove the tubing at the bottom of the radiator and put plugs or put the hose back on the radiator and making a closed loop?

Take that shorter hose and plug it to where the longer hose is going. The take the longer hose and loop it back onto the radiator.
