got my car back this morning, and couldnt sleep last night knowing that my transmission could have, and probably has been "contaminated" due to them replacing the leaking radiator they found.

so i got home and pulled my dipstick for transmission fluid, and then I asked myself, what the heck am I looking for? I mean i know the milky look and so forth, but there is so little fluid on the end of the dipstick (even after the 180 rotation to push it further down), I cant tell if its bad or good. It just looks brown....haha.

ahhhh....always something.

Do the bypass, the fluid from the radiator will empty out.
Or take the plunge and change out your trans fluid...when you flush it out, you'll see what it looks like.

Well I just did the bypass after getting my radiator replaced yesterday from Nissan. Here are some pics of the fluid that came out when I pulled the hoses. Looks old, but not like a milkshake...so we'll see what happens. I still am working on getting some info from Nissan regarding how they discovered the leak and if they put any fluid back in.

Bypass was pretty easy, hardest part was those stupid clamps on the hoses. haha

Fluid looks fine...as long as it didn't come out that dirty and it was the container that was dirty.

Just did mine last night by just simply switching the 2 hoses (very simple) and I did blow out the extra tranny fluid from the line. No one has had issue with the simple bypass have they?

Gilliam....good pics of the fluid

I did the bypass about 3 months ago..06 Path here..my fluid was a reddish brown....

just thought about something...should I blow out the remaining fluid left in the rad cooler? I only capped mine off...how much is left in there? Is it enough to contaminate my tranny if the internal cooler cracks open? What did you guys do?

People only blow it out in case if the cooler does fail it wont contaminate the coolant in the radiator. It's up to you if you want to clean it out or not.

Baed

my concern is that if it does fail, then it would contaminate the coolant.
Think on my next oil change, I will drain out what I can and then blow some low pis air through it.

Why wasn't I told to Spend $75 to Save $4,500

Postby MrPathy » Fri Nov 11, 2011 8:26 pm

I just went thru it... '06 Nissan Xterra, Radiator caused transmission failure at 95,000 miles, Nissan was no help.

What I can't comprehend is why Nissan did not tell me to spend the $75 to save $4,500. The information is in here, but I was not looking here.

I'm on a mission to tell 2005 to 2010 Xterra, Pathfinder and Frontier owners to spend the $75 to save $4,500. PLEASE HELP.

See www.savingxterras.com and give me advice on how to get the word out. Let's help our Nissan brothers and sisters out. How can you pass a Pathy or Xterra without telling them to spend $75 to save $4,500.

I just did my oil change last week. While I was down there, I took off my radiator plugs and used about 20lbs of compressed air to blow out any remaining trans fluid left in the old rad cooler.

Does this problem exist in 2011 V6 Pathfinders?
