Is this a common failure with all r51 pathy's ? does it make sense to just do this modification from the get go ?

Yes I would say it makes sense to do the modification right off the bat, though I guess it depends on what year your truck is.

I haven't heard of any 06+ having the transmission problem but that could very well be because it just hasn't had enough time to develop yet. Better safe than sorry, I did the mod as soon as I got my truck.

What part of NJ are you from ? What dealer worked on your car ? I am looking at an 06 with 46k miles on it as my next car, wondering if I can get a mechanic to look before I buy it.

the cooler is not shown in that picture. it's located infront off the condenser. if you pop the hood on your path a look to the left behind the grill you will see it. the procedure is to connect two of the lines together. the one that goes to the driver side on the bottom of the rad to the one on the passenger side of the radiator. then you blow out the remaining fluid in the rad and cap them off with some heater hose caps and clamp them in place. you will need a 3/8" barb. barb connects both lines together. you have to do it quick so you don't lose much fluid. strap the lines out the way and your done.

Thanks- I think the light bulb in my head is dimly lit now and I'm getting it.

so what the OP did was add a B&M cooler b/w the #12 lines and mounted that to the front of the Radiator somewhere, where as others have simply coupled the lines together and rely on the external cooler. seems as though either solution works and no-one has reported any problems with just coupling the lines together even with heavy duty towing work. I would be inclined to put a B&M cooler but I am afraid to mount it in a bad position that may disrupt air flow.

When I pull the lines will the fluid just start gushing out or is it not pressurzied? knowing my slow reaction time I think I will just clamp it anyway, do I need to clamp both lines ?

Fluid will leak out, but it won't gush out. It's not pressurized but the hoses are full.

Take them off one at a time, and point them upwards so that you don't lose too much fluid.

No big deal either way, have a drip pan near by.

Does anyone know of a build date correlation to this problem ? Are there any late 06's or 07+ that have experienced this ? It seems that most more or less around 50k miles and so far only 05's and 06's. The one I will be buying has a 1/06 build date.

I haven't seen any info on this. Nissan is being very tight lipped about it, and the dealers up here in canada don't even pretend to know about it.

I'm in Morris county. Hillside Nissan in E. Hanover fixed it.

While underneath the radiator, I noticed small amount of coolant from the radiator. It's not enough to drip, but this surely is a sign that the radiator is going to give any day/month now.

This really $ucks as I'm still trying to fix the "fuel sending unit" issue. I'm wondering what else did Nissan use that will break after the "powertrain warranty".[/img]
Regarding the coolant leak, did you do a pressure test on the rad? Just wondering if the green stuff you see at the bottom of the core is the result of a spill when topping up?

Anyone know if this problem would trigger the SES light?

UPDATE: Nevermind. Just did self diagnostic and got a "0463" code. Bad fuel level sensor apparently.

I haven't done the vaccum test, but it is a good possibility that it could be overflow when topping off from the manufacturer. I'm at 52K and in the process of flushing the rad fluid before winter. I'll update when I see leak underneath.
