Lifting my 87 v6 4x4?

Postby Morocco Slim » Tue Jul 09, 2013 8:27 am

Hello Everyone,

I just bought my new rig about 3 weeks ago and would like to make it more of a beast on the trails. I would like to get a lift, roof rack, spot lights and a few other things. What should I add to my rig that would help it perform better at a reasonable price? I took it out this past weekend and had a blast but I bottomed out in two different spot so I know I need a lift and bigger tires. Any insight would be super awesome because I just found my new hobby.

Thanks in advance

I bought an 88 a few months ago and I'm the same way. I will say this. First thing is check / change the timing belt. I didn't and it cost me a valve job. I'm also thinking about the roof rack. Mainly to get rid of the spare tire in my rear view and as a better place to mount lights. I put some cheap fog lights on it and they help, but light up higher seems to be the answer. I checked into body lifts and they are pretty cheap. I'm going to see if it's possible to use some bolt rollers and make a trip to the bolt store before I actually buy a kit though. Raising the bumpers to match costs an extra few dollars, but the body spacers are just plastic. here's a pic of the fog lights. [Image]
