Well, at school (which is where my Path was at when this happened), it was outside in our parking lot with about 100 other cars. My living room windows look out directly into the lot, and I was sitting there watching the storms. I didn't see anything that would indicate a close strike, plus my building is 19 stories tall so you'd think the lightning would have rather arced from there.... but the dealership even said that even close-by strikes can mess some things up.

From looking at my insurance plan, lightning strikes are covered under comprehensive... I wonder if they cover near-by strikes inducing damage.

Possibly, but I doubt they will cover it. Hard to prove that was why the amp failed.

Good news and bad news:

I followed jtorres186's advice and left it unplugged for 3 days. I plugged it back in, heard a minor pop or two, and then... silence! No noise, and the radio worked great.

Then, a day later, another bad storm rolled across the area, and now it doesn't work again. The 3 day trick isn't working this time either.

I'll be bringing it to the dealership sometime this week to have them repair it.

On a weird note, the Bose stereo in my mom's Ford Five Hundred is now doing the same thing - her car is over a hundred miles from me though... It's still under warranty so I'll see what they say when she brings it in
