My VK56 Performance Thread

Postby forgottenzone » Wed Apr 29, 2015 2:03 pm

Hello everyone.
I am making a thread so I can post, my upgrades, testing, Dyno runs, ETC.
I have made a lot of different threads over the years, and would like to keep it all in one thread.
Stuff I am working on currently and future mods that are coming up.
and when I have time I will add the links to my earlier threads.

Right now I am working on fine tuning her, before I start with new upgrades.
I Did some Performance Cipher data logging with 1 of the Uprev utilities that allows you to setup what type of ECU parameters you want to log, select your
MPH goal and it automatically starts logging your runs.
And once it reaches your Target speed. it will stop recording.
It also creates the recorded file with speed it took to reach that goal.
Then you use all that recorded data to fine tune your ECU ROM.
so I did 2 runs 0-60.
and 1 run 0-100.
My AFR's are from high 12's to mid 13's which still leaves me a room to tune here for more power.
Once she is fine tuned. I will have here Dyno'd to get the HP/TQ numbers
as a Base point before my future mods. Then I will Dyno here after all the mods to See how much gains where made.
Stay tuned, I will keep Posting the updates.
My signature shows all the current modifications I have done
Here are few pics of todays Data logging.
My oem speedo, and ECU gps speedo, and my G-tech Adrenaline all
match evenly.
All 3 logged runs where done 5 minutes apart at the same location.

I have UpRev Cipher it only monitors parameters and trouble codes. But cannot get it to communicate to adjust timing, etc on my Pathfinder, can you do any of that? Strange because on my Maxima I can adjust for all that and it's 5 years older than my Pathfinder.

Sorry guys. Have been very busy with work this year. Actually alot of updates. I will be posting soon. I am actually working on adapting an Intake manifold from an Infinity engine, for our VK56 motor. If it shows good gains, i will be making a complete kit with all the parts needed to convert to it.
There are 2 types of manifold setups out there already. Bith5 are using oem manifold, with Grafted LS3 chevy intake 90mm neck, and it uses 90mm LS7 drive by wire throttle body. I have it lt just have not installed it yet. Also another one ths uses same manifold and neck, but ported to 102mm and it uses Nick Williams 102mm LS drive by wire Throttle body. My intake setup will be entire replacement of the intake manifold. It will also use 90mm LS7 Throttle Body. I will post more info and mods i am working on.

Here was my fastest and only 0 to 60 run back in april. Almost half a second faster. Only mod done was the RAM air mod to the Volant CAI closed Box.

Think little late. Yeas mine can do it all. I have the tuner version with license, sounds likebyoy only have a version thst can log, erase codes and flash the ECU files thst have been moded by pro tuners. My speed limiter is set to 300mph lol.
For example if you are getting a code thst wont go away, lets say exhaust code after deleting cats, you can turn it off so it doesn't pop up any more.

Ok. So its time to get back to updating this thread.
Have been spendong to much tome at Titan places.
Doing research.
Ok for starters I am changing my oem Radiator to dual core CFS all aluminum radiator.
And I am changing from my Titan dual flex a lite electric fan setup. To aluminum custom built shroud, with dual electric SPAL fans. The shroud and fans are designed to be bolted on right to our Radiators, Stock or CFS dual cores. I spent over $200 bucks shipping my new radiator back and forth to the place that made the shroud. So now if anyone is interested they have the measurements and can make them. Our radiators are used on 04-12 V6 and V8 pathfinders, xterras, and frontiers.
I will be using my flex a lite control unit and electric harness. And will be installing an inline radiator hose adapter with thermal probe thst will be inside the antifreeze flow.
Located in the upper radiator hose.
Also the shroud is a low profile which gives more room between the shroud fans and pullies.

Amongst other upgrades to my VK56 I have been working on my own Intake Manifold Setup.
Currently i am running stock intake manifold with stock throttle body. I have another setup i will be testing once i am done with all my new mods, and tuning to see what is the most that stock intake manifold, throttle body can do. After doing the dyno to get my base numbers with stock im, and tb
I will be testing a stock intake manifold thats Graphted to Chevy LS3 90mm manifold neck. Basically they cut off the oem intake manifold 70mm neck. And they put on a 90mm neck from LS3 motor. Then we use LS3 or LS7 90mm Throttle Body
Which i had ported. This will give you depending on your mods between 20 to 30 rear wheel HP, and 15 to 20 Torque. Threwout the entire power band.
I am working on adapting an aluminum dual stage intake manifold from Infinity M45 or FX45 motor, which has long runners just like the VK56 oem manifold, which gives the low end torque. And it has short runners that are controled by butterfly valves and vacuum actuator, which gets activated above 4,000 rpm. The short runners allow air to get faster to the cilindars, which provides higher HP. And the motor does not die at higher RPM. Like stock vk56 do. The 5.6 litre nissan motor was designed for Titan pickup. And it was designed for most torque possible for towing purposes. And not for top end performance. With the intake manifold i am worning on, if all goes well. The 5.6 will have best of both worlds. Low end TQ, and high RPM HP. Which will not drop off afrer 4,000 rpm but keep climbing and pulling to the redline. With aftermarket Cams, this will be even better.
I have been doing R&D for the last 3 months. And have everything needed to make the manifold work. Only thing missing is a set of flange addapters that will allow the manifold to be bolted to our engine. Manifold is getting designed and made for the past 3 weeks. It will be using thesame 90mm LS throttle body.

Here is the picture of both manifolds i am talking about.
On the left is oem intake with Bigger 90mm Neck. And on the left is the Infinity intake i am working on.

Here is my ported LS7 90mm TB. And larger fuel injectors

Here is the picture of rhe upgraded oem manifold and infinity manifold, the aluminum manifold is made out of 2 peace plenum. Upper section contains the mechanism and butterfly valves, also called Power valves. You can see in the picture the Vacuum Actuator and the Mechanism. The actuator works same as Turbos with internal waste gate actuator.
My manifold setup needs around 20 different parts to work and operate correctly. And yes both manifolds after installing will need to be tuned by an Uprev Tuner, to work correctly. You can take it to them, or you can by a cable, record logs and have them tune it and return it to you over the email. And you can flash your ecu yourself. logging agaim and fine tuning until its all tuned for your mods. Since everyone has different mods, there is no way to make a CANED tune, which is not good anyway.

Here is how the manifold will look on our V8 engine.

Here is a picture that shows how the dual stage Intake Manifold, with short and long runners works.

Here is few pictures of the lower intake plenum.

Image

Image

Here is a top of upper manifold

Image

Here is the inside of the upper manifold, you can see the Air Horns, or also called Bell Horns, from short runners. You can also see the Butterfly Valves, also called Power Valves.

Image

The valves are normaly closed and air is fed to the cilindars threw the 16 inch runners, which are same length as VK56 nissans 5.6 litre V8 that is in V8 Pathfinders oem intake manifold runners, 16 inch.

Image

Once the engine gets to preset rpm's on the rpm switch, the silenoid gdts activated and power valves open for the short runners. When the rpm goes below the preset number, solenoid goes off and valves close back up again.
