Hello to my fellow forum members. My truck is a 1993 SE v6 with 295k. Best truck I have ever had. I have recently put money into a new tranny and some other things. Almost have her back on the road permanently but am having an issue that I need to get solved.

My truck will sputter and die at times. Replaced the fuel filter last week and the cap plugs & wires only have 25-30k on them.

Any ideas? How can I get the codes without paying $69?

Thanks.

Check your local Harbor freight. Oftentimes they'll have a well-priced OBD II/CAN diagnostic reader. Even if you spend 69 or a bit more on the reader, they really come in handy. Your friends will love you for it too and buy you beer, and food or gladly give you 20 bucks to check it rather than pat the diagnostic fees at a shop.

That said, have you tried running a compression check or a leak-down test? That will tell you if it's a leak of some kind. I'd also have the injectors and fuel pump checked out.

could be a bad mass air flow sensor.
