Noise When Turning Right

Postby ejaamy » Sat May 30, 2020 3:52 pm

Purchased a Certified Pre-Owned 2017 Pathfinder about 6 months ago from a dealer ~2 hours away. Been having this rubbing sound only when turning right for the last few months. It was pretty faint for a while and you had to really listen for it. It has gotten somewhat louder recently. Have had it at the local Nissan dealer twice now and they are unable to diagnose the issue. They even removed all the wheels and put wheels from another 2017 that they had on their lot and said the noise still occurred. They told me to bring it back if it gets worse. Anybody have any thoughts? Thank you.

I'm guessing a warped rotor.

I would think a warped brake rotor would cause a brake pedal pulsation if it were that bad. Make sure the stock sized tires are installed and not rubbing against the wheel well liner during turns. You might try spraying some silicone lubricant on the outer CV boots. If that doesn't work and you can duplicate it, take a test ride with the dealer technician so you can point it out to him as it's doing it.

Thank you for your thoughts. They put new tires on as part of the CPO so will ensure the correct size. Did take a ride with a technician and he heard it as well. There is no pulsation or anything when breaking. There is something rubbing somewhere as the time between the sound increases as you pick up speed but only when turning right. Does not have to be a full right turn. Even if the road bends to the right as soon as you turn the steering wheel just slightly, it is noticeable.

Could also be ball joints. Also make sure the lugs on that wheel are tight.

Thanks again for everyone's inputs. Ended up being in the area of the dealer where I purchased the vehicle and rode with the technician. He immediately said it was a wheel bearing which they replaced and the noise is gone. Not sure why the local Nissan dealer never mentioned it or could figure it out even after having it there for diagnostics twice.

Nice to have a CPO with that 100,000 mile warranty I bet

For sure! Not sure what that repair would have cost, probably should have asked just out of curiosity.
