Yes, levels are all good-first thing the hubbs checked. I'm not sure what the brand on the oil filter is. I know we've used a variety over the years with never a problem, but, I know sometimes can get touchy with an older pathy. I'll double check the brand on the filter and reply back.

My '05 Pathy's oil pressure guage stays at max all the time..it started a few days after an oil change. The first thing I noticed was my oil change reminder sticker...The shop had put 10W30 in by mistake...hmmmmm

10w-30 will run fine in your engine and is even listed in the service manual as fine. Personally, my preference is 10w-40 during the hot months here in Florida. I've never had my engine run so smoothly.

Anyways, I've been slowly fixing up all the small problems on my Pathfinder and decided to tackle this one. I found an oil pressure sender unit here when I was picking a new A/C blower. The price seems like a really good deal compared to everywhere else, but it has me worried about the quality. Any thoughts?

I don't see 2005 listed
Also, early R51s have a different sending unit than later models
Aftermarket catalogs may not differentiate
I'm always skeptical of electrical aftermarket replacement parts

I did an aftermarket one through rock auto. It works, but at idle it turns on the light. I've manually checked my oil pressure and it is fine so the gauge must just read a little low.

You know what, you're right, it's not for the R51. I never looked closely at the details, it only fits the old WD and hardbody platforms.

The aftermarket oil senders have been problematic in the R51's, so stick with the genuine Nissan part. The early R51's have an actual oil pressure gauge with a sending unit. Around 07 or 08, Nissan turn the oil pressure gauge into a dummy gauge and used an oil pressure switch, rather than a sender. The gauge either reads halfway or nothing.

the oil pressure in my 06 has been reading at the top of the range high the whole weekend and doesn't move unless I shut off the engine, then the needle goes back to the bottom.

My dad did take the pathy out for an oil change a couple weeks ago -he thought he was being helpful- but didn't take it to the dealer so I don't know what oil/filter they used. I'll have to check later today. Hopefully it's not the oil or filter but what are the chances that it could be? :(

Unless they put too much oil in, I doubt the filter or oil weight is going to make that kind of an impact. Let your engine cool and check the oil level. If it's too high, drain a little of the oil out of the bottom. Maybe 1/4 to 1/2 a qt.

That's the typical symptom of a bad oil pressure sender on the early R51's.

Hopefully it's just the sensor and nothing worse. Thank you both for your help.

Genuine Nissan 25070-CD00A Oil Pressure Switch

Postby kpdennis12 » Thu Nov 17, 2016 1:51 pm

New here. Same thing is going on with my 06 pathfinder at the moment and ran across this pretty good price on amazon. Any suggestions on best practice for self install?

$54 is about the lowest I've seen them go for. Most usually go through the passenger side wheel well to get to it.
