plastidip rocker panel?

so i'm thinking about doing a little bit of the rocker panel.

i know -for sure- that i want to do that little bit of body that is usually hidden by the running boards (middle pic). however i'm contemplating doing all the way up the rocker panel with the black plastidip (bottom pic)

what do ya'll think? (i did a quick "rendering" job in photoshop...)

I'd say do your last picture. That's high enough to protect your paint, any higher and I think it would too much.

oh, definitely nothing higher than the bottom of the door for sure. and really when you're standing it doesn't seem like much. if you squat down (like the angle i took the pic at) then you see alot more of it.

I sprayed mine with bedliner before i installed the sliders

3rd picture for sure, although I would also use bedliner. That area, at least on mine, gets a ton of crap hitting the paint. I can't imagine that plastidip would last very long in that particular spot.

I admit I have been thinking of having bed-liner professionally done for the rockers, fender flares, and front and rear bumpers...

thats why i used bedliner i lighlty sanded the rocker and sprayed it with a antirust primer and 5 coats of bedliner. Did it before last winter and it still looks great going to hit it with another coat before snowfall

well i did the whole rocker panels tonight. will have to put up some pics tomorrow since it was too dark tonight

You should also do the chrome strip on the doors and V8 logo.

don't think i'll be doing the v8 or chrome on the sides, i do actually like those there.

i think i did about 6 or 7 coats on each side. took about 2.5 hours, with about 1hr of that being total waiting time between coats. took about 20 min per side to tape, but i sprayed one side while i was taping the other.

here's the bad part. so since i did so many light coats there was alot of time for the coats to dry. since it tried you can't just peel off the masking tape. you have to score the line with a razor first so you don't pull up the plastidip. it's not a big deal where the top of the rocker panel meets the body because 1. there's a crease there already, 2. it's hidden by the doors anyway. however, where the line comes out and is on the front quarter panel.....welllllll, that's pretty hairy. i very very lightly scored it about 3-4 times on that quarter panel. i figure if i end up taking this stuff off and go back to stock it -should- buff out. or so i hope

anyway looks like my 'mock up' wasn't far off at all. here's how it actually came out
