Any good alternative to the Moog Springs?

Postby palmerwmd » Fri Jan 15, 2021 3:01 pm

Moog says they have 6-8 weeks leadtime for delivery..
But wish to do this soon.
Any good alternative in stiffer springs than stock?

Did you try Rockauto.com? They show them available and have a warehouse location. Moog 81117 for the V8 rear suspension.

- Since I will go with no lift (or what little lift these Moggs give me) Should I stick with Bilstein 4600?
- Do you think this will raise my payload a bit?
For some reason the V8 R51s are listed with an extra 100 ish payload over the non V6s despite the vehicle being heavier. This presupposes a heavier spring from factory IMO.

The 4600's are good, but they won't change your payload capacity; it's the springs that affect payload capacity, not the shocks, which are intended to dampen the suspension. If you want a shock to increase payload, it would have to be a coil-over shock or an air shock (like Gabriel Hi-jackers). To increase your payload, you could just install Air-lift 1000 air bags, or, get custom springs made. I would go with the air bags because you can adjust it as necessary to your load. It won't destroy your ride quality when unloaded, like heavy-duty springs would.

Poor wordsmithing on my part, I was thinking if the Moogs springs might raise my payload a bit.
I understand they are stiffer than stock?
Even if its just an extra 100 lbs I'll be happy with that.

As you know well, the percentage of V8 Pathfinders to the number of R51 Pathfinders, overall, is somewhat small. We probably get a lot more feedback at TheNissanPath than just about any other forum. While we know that the Moog 81119 rear coil spring is superior to the factory part, adds a little ride height and then settles down a little after a while, I don't recall hearing anything about the Moog 81117 coil spring for the V8 models. Honestly, I don't recall hearing much in regards to the V8 Pathy having the "sagging" or "bottoming out" issues of the V6 R51; that doesn't mean they don't, but, rather I don't remember hearing anyone complain about it with a V8 Pathy. You might be able to search the site for that info or maybe someone with a V8 Pathy can chime-in and add more experienced insight?

I feel this Pathy's rear end is a bit soft.
but that may also be caused by the worn out shocks.

Then again the wheel arch does not seem to sit terribly high so again am pretty sure the springs are worn.
So pretty sure new springs a good idea for me.
The V8 Pathfinder from the factory is listed with a bit extra payload over the V6 despite the engine weighing an extra 100 lbs.
So I figure the OEM springs have to be stiffer from factory to begin with, to make this possible.

Probably Nissan figured the V8 is more likely to tow and have to take heavier tongue load as well?

You can always go with the OME spring as an alternative ; )

So the moogs in the rear have settled to what my mark 1 eyeball tells me is pretty much stock height, maybe just a tad higher than before but nothing that really screams at me.
is there an objective measurement I can make?

Like how many inches from the center of wheel to the higher part of the wheelarch or some such to determine if this part did indeed give me a 1 inch lift or nothing?

Another reason I am asking is, I am eyeing the Rancho quicklift front struts, RANCHO RS999922.
These give a 2 inch lift according to Rockauto.

So.. I want to avoid the look of a reverse rake on the car if I do decide to buy those for the front.
If my rears are at stock height I will avoid the RANCHO RS999922

Reviews of the Ranchos have been mixed.

Thanks! :D

I been moving away from the Ranchos also I just dont want the 2 inch lift as I am not prepared to replace my brand new springs.
I cant decide which of the complete strutassemblies (springs included) on Rockauto would be good.
Any recommendation?

FCS 13455557

Monroe 171103

Moog ST8615

Gabriel G57118

these are advertised as complete assemblies.
Should I order strut mount also?
Or are they included in these "complete" assemblies. :?:

Of your choices, I would go with Moog, which I've used on my 2008, although, some have used the Monroes and have been happy with them.
