TPMS

Details: 2008 Pathfinder S.

Problem. Since two weeks now, TPMS light has stayed on. When it first came on, Right Rear tire had 20lbs cold, so I inflated it to 32. Now holding at 32 and all the rest of the tires are between 30-32lbs. TPMS light stays on. It is not flashing to indicate a problem though, just stays lit. Any ideas before I take it to the dealer?

I have read where it says to drive the vehicle for approx 55MPH or so.. for a lengthy period and the light should go off. Maybe disconnect the ground terminal at battery and see if it resets the ECM. If none work the sensor in the tire that had 20PSI may have gone bad..

We recently popped one of the original tires off-road. I had them all changed out when we got back to town. The light went off in less than a minute after hopping on the freeway on the way home from the tire shop.

Thanks, I didn't even think of disconnecting the battery. That should have been my first thought.

I'll give it a try tomorrow.

Have you checked your spare?Maybe there was more than just one tire that was low.

Not sure about the 55mph thing. When I had a leaking tire on my last set, the TPMS would go off all the time. Usually after topping it off, the light would go out before i even got out of the gas station parking lot.

Checking the spare as phantom mentioned seems like a good idea. Never thought about there being a sensor in that wheel as well.

Try bringing up to 35 PSI and drive for a little while. I believe that TPMS is programmed to alarm below 29 and reset above 33. You might need to get it over the threshold to reset the system, then you can lower to your preferred pressure.

If that doesn't work, the dealer probably needs to reset your system...I had that happen once.

The spare tire is not monitored by the TPMS. It is stated in the owners manual. That was one of the first things I checked.

I had the TPMS light up once once, but one of the tires were down. So i topped all 4 to 35psi and then drove for a couple of km, the light just went off..so all good.
Try setting ur pressure to 35psi or at least above 32, drive it for a couple of miles and see what happens..

Last night was really strange. I was on I80 doing about 70mph and the TPMS light came on. I was like WTF? Since I have a 08 with the dash computer, I went to Info and checked the tire psi. All but one showed 40psi the other was just showing ***. I slowed down thinking I might be having a flat and started to exit the expressway when the light went off and the dash. The computer showed 40psi for all 4 tires. And stayed off

Even though the TPMS does not measure the spare tire its still a good idea to check it. It just takes seconds and could save you in a pinch.

Problem solved. Inflating the tire to 35lbs PSI did the trick. Thanks.

Once I was driving on a highway about 70MPH and all of a sudden my TPMS light started flashing. I didn't feel anything wrong but I immediately pulled into a rest stop about 1/2mi up the road. As I was driving up the ramp the TPMS went off. Checked the tires with a gauge and they were all fine.

My guess is that it picked-up a signal from an adjacent vehicle. Possible? Anyway, it never happened again.

i had mine come on one 48 degree morning in south florida. i thought i had a nail and checked all my tires. not one nail was found. the psi dropped because of the weather change. i went to work and put in the nitrogen air and the problem was solved. the light went of immediately and never came back on. you might want to give it a try, but you have to make sure you watch who ever puts it in your vehicle. some times they just change the valve stem cap only without putting in the nitrogen air.
