My experience in mpgs with the V8

Postby palmerwmd » Sun Apr 04, 2021 4:44 pm

Over the past couple months I been checking my mpgs.
Here are the results

City: 12 ish mpg
Mixed City-hiway: 15
Pure Highway with maximum attention paid to driving for fuel economy at 55-60 mpg : 21-22 mpg
Same but with lightly rolling hills: 19.5 to 20 mpg
Interstate going between 80 and 90 mph 16-16.5 mpg
Normal interstate driving around 70 mph: 17 mpg (hills) (when flat; 18 mpg)

Most of my fuel is mid range but a lots of regular too especially if I know i will drive at a bit of altitude and/or gently.

Mine is very similar. We took a trip from Florida to Colorado last year and averaged 18 doing ~85mph going with the flow of traffic. Those stints on back roads where you do 55-65 is the sweet spot like you noted where I can get above 20mpg. My city doesn't get that low, with kids car line and city I drop to about 15, 14 if you idle excessively in parking lots for whatever reason. I'm probably going to be hauling a Travel Trailer this year for our trip so I'm interested to see what MPG I get with that. I'm around 225K miles on mine as well.

Thanks for the additional data! :D

Were you measuring your mpg by what the vehicle told you or by pump vs trip odometer?
What kind of fuel do you use?
Regular, Premium or midrange? 8)

The funny thing is the V-6 is about the same, without the big dip for city idling. :?

Do you use regular or premium fuel?
