Anyone ever try these 6 Gallon round jugs in spare tire spot?

Anything automotive in nature, be it Nissan or one of those "other" manufacturers.

Anyone ever try these 6 Gallon round jugs in spare tire spot?

Postby palmerwmd » Thu Mar 11, 2021 9:45 pm

I been looking for a fuel solution for a while for my (former) R51 V6 and my Xterra.
Now that my R51 is a V8 model it has taken on a new sense of urgency:

Very cool. May eventually have to pick up 3 some day in the future for water storage for fishing and camping trips.

I wonder why they don't recommend it for fuel storage? Gas buildup?

In the USA you may not have a gas tank behind the axle.
Other countries you cna.
This is why Middle eastern and australian patrols and Landcruiser have LOT extra fuel capacity over our models.

I am confident the material is good enough for fuel.
I will likely buy this

Ahh, didn't know that.

That leads me to ask then if R51s in other parts of the world come with a bigger fuel tank? Why go with external containers for when one can just retrofit a larger fuel tank if it's considerably bigger than what we have here in North America.

I already made a couple of phone calls to australia,
There are extended fuels tanks available for R51 in Australia, but they may not ship them here.
The US subsidiary insists they "have nothing" for R51 even though their US home office has offerings for R51

I got one of those 6-gallon containers, but the hole in the middle is too big for the spare tire carrier.
I contacted the vendor and they told me I'm on my own to make a washer out of metal to make the spare tire carrier bigger. I've not been able to find anything sold online that would fit... :(
