Custom Spare Tire Carrier

Postby Code Pathfinder » Sat Jan 25, 2020 8:48 am

Spare Tire Carrier installed with custom tire cover.

I had a local guy who owns a fab shop in the cities made me this hitch mounted carrier.

The carrier was powder-coated to closely match the color of my SUV. I believe the color was called graphite titanium.

This carrier also has the ability to swing-out. Allowing me to access my trunk without interference. it uses a two step locking latch for extra security.

I added the brake light/license plate light after installing the carrier so the cops wouldn't bother me for having no plate light. It plugs directly into the trailer harness on my SUV.

Tire Cover was customized by a shop in Cincinnati Ohio.

I paid around $650 for the entire setup.

On to the next project

Here are some photos

( I drilled a 3rd hole in the receiver so I could slide the carrier further into the hitch and closer to the vehicle)

Most likely.

Looking at Rotopax mounts. He designed the swing out carrier to accept that mounting plate so it should be good to go.

I will keep this a consideration, but, follow me dream here.

Everyone chime in and tell me where this fails....

Xterra step bumper (the sides of the Xterra)
Xterra swing-out tire carrier and bumper.

Insane? Too much fab work?

I took the spare out from under, as it is no longer the right size, and realized it made a huge difference in departure angle. So, as a spare is kind of important, it wanted to rear mount it.

In my fullest of dreams, it drops down like a tailgate instead of swings out, but I am pretty sure that is just a dream.

How much for the tire carrier by its self? I see you have up 650 for the whole setup. Can you put me in contact with your friend? Thank you!
