Fan Clutch Rebuild

Postby smj999smj » Wed Aug 18, 2021 4:58 am

ClubFrontier.org member "0truck0" posted this excellent tutorial on how to refill the oil in a fan clutch on his Gen 2 Frontier. I thought this might be of interest to some, so here's the link:

2008 V6, SE with 215K miles.

Temperature was rising to unacceptable levels at low RPM and fan spun freely both cold and after running. I ordered a new one on Amazon, actually, as it was only $65 USD and that was with free same-day delivery. AutoZone Duralast option was $170. From Nissan would have been $200+ for the part.

Considering the cost was so low, a replacement seemed the better option, but knowing a re-build is possible is nice.

A lot of people have had problems with the aftermarket fan clutches so hopefully you won't run into any issues. I usually recommend spending the extra money and getting the genuine Nissan part.
