285/75R16 spare tire

Postby Spatula » Sat Sep 11, 2021 3:33 pm

Hi all,

I am currently rolling on some ten year old 285/75R16 General Grabber AT2s on Xterra rims that came with my pathy when I bought her two years ago. It's definitely time for new rubber, and I'd like to buy another matching rim and 5 new 285/75R16 Goodyear Wrangler Duratracs. My question is, will they fit in the stock spare tire spot? I don't want to buy a rim for $200 and and extra tire to find out that it won't squeeze in there!

Thanks!
geoff

I currently have 265/65 tyres but I know the spare is bigger, I'm sure is is something/75 and it defiantly fits. it is a bit tight but if you put the right edge in first it goes in fine. I did have a tyre place leave ie out once claiming it didn't fit but I just put in straight in afterwards, with a little bit of pushing with my foot it is not a big deal.

In my spare tire slot I have 265/65/18 tires.
Their diameter is 31.6 inches.

Your proposed tire size is 32.8 inch diameter so its a full inch bigger.
I will check below my truck to see if there is room for an extra inch diameter.

On my 2006 Pathfinder the 265/70-R17 (like 31,6 inch diameter) fit perfectly in spare tire compartment, while on facelift series 2011 year, also R51 model it does NOT fit anymore. I am also trying to figure out something. Will let you know of the progress...

UPDATE: I can now confirm that a 285/75R16 BFG KO2 fits perfectly in the spare spot of a Canadian 2012 R51 Pathfinder SV. I would actually argue that it fits better, as once the chain is snug there is zero wobble. With the 17" stock spare, there always seemed to be a bit of lateral wobble.

Now I just need to find a (portable) jack that will lift her high enough to change a tire!

That's great news!
I also checked out your pics in this thread: looks legit!
