I ordered a set of the 90mm Hella halogen low beam projectors to replace the stock fog lamps, $138 total. Mounting will be an experiment, but otherwise I'm optimistic that they'll work. Supposed to arrive mid-week, so I'll probably tackle the project on the holiday this Monday. Details to follow if I'm successful.

Check out this thread http://www.thenissanpath.com/viewtopic.php?t=1568 for details on the Hella 90mm retrofit.

Custom Bar

Postby shv2sail » Thu Jan 29, 2009 9:19 am

I had these folks: http://www.kenmtn.com/index.htm make a custom light 'hoop' for my Xterra. Kyle there is easy to deal with and the price was cheaper than anything out there.

It was a pre-runner style bar that mounted on the front bumper to existing holes located under the grille. Just wide enough to hold (3) 6" KC dayrunners...looked quite cool and not 'overdone' as may of the guards/bars/bumpers out there. I'm considering either some of their 'stock' products or maybe some custom work again for my new Pathy.

Might be a good option for getting an offroad light mount for the R51....

....and another possibility that I just came across:

I wonder if the "universal light bar" would work...anyone tried this on an R51?

Well... we still haven't mounted the lights yet. We are looking at doing a behind the grille mount near the Nissan front grille emblem. There seems to be three vertical metal brackets behind the plastic grille that I can use for a horizontal light bar mounting points. Then I can run two metal tabs through the grille to mount my Hella FF500 lights. Once it's done I'll post my pictures.

Look at this:

I saw one in traffic and its a really good idea. No holes to drill and makes a clean bracket.

Isn't it crazy how expensive light mounting bars are?! Especially for being a little bar behind the license plate. Unfortunately for our Pathfinders those little wing light bars behind the license plate aren't worth the $100 in my opinion. Looks like I have to make one of my own. :)
