Considering an older Pathfinder

Postby Elecmuso » Mon May 09, 2022 4:45 am

G’day – new around here

With the price of slightly 2nd hand 4WDs so high I’ve been thinking about looking at an older vehicle with relatively low ks (some under 150000). So I’ve been looking at R50 Pathfinders - their value not as inflated as older Prados and even Paejeros as far as I can tell. Just how viable are they as a decent performing and reliable 4WD even with 200,000km plus on the clock?

Are there years and models to look out for?

Cheers

I miss my old '01 R50! sold it with 308k km's on the clock and everything still worked except the power antenna- it was stuck up and the reception was fine!

the ones with the 3.5L had noticeably better grunt than the older ones with the 3.3L.

Model year 2001 and up (production started in 2000)
And yes that 3.5 is pretty sweet.
It's called the VQ35de and a developed version of it still powers the 2022 Pathfinder!

Are the 3.5 l hard to come by? I've not seen any here in Adelaide?

Down Under it would need to be a US-market export, the Terrano, Patrol and Ford Maverick never got the VQ35. The Y60/Y61 Patrols got the TB42 I-6.

That would explain it.
