I don't think the R51 MAFs were Hitachi, but some Nissan MAFs are, and Hitachi makes good s#!t in general. MAFs aren't like Hall Effect sensors, even China-cheap ones usually work fine in Nissans. You just can't be lazy and skip doing the IAVL, that will bite your butt every time. China-cheap ones can also "age" more quickly than quality parts and suffer larger component tolerance drifts, so they may require an IAVL every couple years to stay working right.
